REVIEW:

I'd been hearing some absolutely great stuff about Easy and it clearly seemed like it is the best book of 2012. The blogosphere was swooning over it and I thought it was high time I read this book too. I've read that readers found it difficult to express how much they liked EasyThe book, however, didn't do much for me. It was like I read it only because I would have felt bad to have not read a Contemporary YA/NA book that garnered so much praise and because I don't like to leave a story halfway. Don't get me wrong, the whole concept of Easy was absolutely different and exciting, but maybe it's just the pace or the characters or the predictability of the plot or simply my reading phase (which tends to see a dry spell at times), that made the book a little frustrating.
Easy is the story of Jacqueline who nearly escapes getting raped by her ex boyfriend's kind of enemy and her best friend's boyfriend's best friend, Buck. She is saved by Lucas,an absolutely gorgeous and mysterious boy.
I had a few issues with Jacqueline. There were times when I thought she could have done something in a another way or just not done what she did. Although she was a well developed character, I couldn't exactly relate to her in any way. Lucas or Landon was a tortured boy. His revelation comes at a later stage in the book and getting to know his past and his demons was one aspect that was totally worth the wait. He was a nice guy- protective, gentlemanly, compassionate, hardworking, dark, and mysterious all at the same time. I really liked reading about Jacqueline and Lucas. They are truly made for each other. The romantic scenes between the two were hot and lovely.
Side characters like Jacqueline's best friend, Erin, Jacqueline's ex, Kennedy, her Economics teacher, Dr. Heller and her almost rapist and stalker, Buck, each had a significant role to play. My favourite was Erin, who was everything every best friend should be. She was supportive, encouraging and absolute fun to have around. Her relationship with her boyfriend Chaz was more happening and interesting than Jacqueline's and Lucas'. Jackie's ex Kennedy was a total jerk, in my opinion, and I found Dr. Heller to be quite confusing.
Overall, I didn't exactly hate
Easy but I'm not head over heels over it either. It was a book that I'm glad I read since it took up an extremely  important issue. It was just awe-inspiring to see how, in the end, no one really understands a woman better than another woman and how we should stand up for the right thing.
Author Tammara Webber has taken up a consequential issue with poise and deep consideration. Easy was a  different read that just wasn't there for me. It was nice but predictable. I don't know how, but since the beginning I had a clue about what all would happen and I was right (yay?).  I seriously wanted to love this book as much as the other readers did, and I liked it, just not as much as I would have loved to like it.

  1. I must say that I'm really surprised with your review but then again I understand you. I mean Easy was one of the first NA books that I've read and it blown me away but the NA I'm reading now are different. I most get annoyed like you by the predictability of them. Great review Sarika :)

    1. I know. I thought I'd love it as much as y'all did, but oh well... Predictability is boring. Thank you, Tanja! :)

  2. I read this book when it first came out and before a high expectation was set for it which I think allowed me to enjoy it more. Nothing worse than the disappointment of reading a book that EVERYONE LOVES and seems to fall a bit flat for you.

    1. Yes, it's good you read it before the hype. That makes you go into a book without any grand expectations. I'm glad you enjoyed it, Cece! :)

  3. NO! Really? You didn't fangirl over any character? Oh, I guess that fine. Everyone has different opinions, but I'd say that sometimes hype is not a good thing for a book. It makes people expect more, but I'm glad that you atleast enjoyed it. Oh and I loved Erin too. She was such an awesome friend. Great review, Sarika :)

    1. I know, Aman, I know. I feel so cast out as I didn't like this as much as everyone else did! But yes, I did like a few things here and there and that's what matters, right? Thank you! :)

  5. Hmm, I haven't read this one yet myself, but I am often wary of hype. This one had an immense amount of hype, but I guess I was never completely sold because I wasn't positive it was the book for me. I'm definitely bummed that it was so predictable! The romance and subject matter definitely sound fantastic though. I suppose I could give this one a go sometime, but I would definitely want to go into the story with reduced expectations. This was such a thoughtful review! I'm left with a lot to think about.

    1. Yes Aylee, this was a Contemporary Romance, so I can see why you wouldn't give much thought to read it. Yes ,the romance was very well shown, but other than that and a few things here and there... It didn't do much for me! When you read it, yes, go in without any grand expectations! Thank you! :)
